The May Stringer house, home of the Hernando Heritage Museum in Brooksville offers guided tours with artifacts dating back to the Civil War. Legend has it that spirits of long ago family members are sometimes present. The 1885 Train Depot Museum depicts early Cracker life in Florida. Chinsegut Hill Manor House was built in the 1850's and has not changed much over the years. It is located five miles northeast of Brooksville and is on the National Historic Register.
The world-famous mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park put on an underwater show that is amazing. Young people love to splash away the day at the adjacent water park, Buccaneer Bay. Stage shows and musicals are offered at Stage West Theater and dinner shows at the Show Palace Theater.
In January the Florida Classic All Breeds Dog show is held just outside Brooksville and visitors from many States come to show their dogs. Spring time welcomes the annual Blueberry Festival held in downtown Brooksville in April. March brings us Swamp Fest which has to be seen to be believed!. Scalloping season runs from July to September and scallops are plentiful. In October there is a Fall corn maze at Sweetfields Farm in Masaryktown. There are plenty of activities to keep people of all ages busy.
For music lovers Sertoma Youth Ranch on the outskirts of Brooksville is an 80 acre wooded Campground organized in 1974. It is a non-profit organizatioon that supports youth groups from all over the state to enoy the rustic outdoors. A 60'x125' covered pavillion and stage hosts many music festivals for the general public throughout the year. There are 225 sites with water and electric plus there is an area for tent camping. Rest rooms with hot showers and an RV dump station are there for your use. Events include Riverhawk, String Break, Will McLean Festival, Camping with the Blues, Celtic Family Jamboree, Thanksgiving Blue Grass Festival, Spring Bluegrass, Spooks and Scoots, Orange Blossom Jamboree and Tin Can Tourists.
